April 27, 201015 yr that knows of any tranny shops that are good and fair with prices or know anyone who dose good work?...since you guys probly know already that im haveing tranny probelms starteing with second not lettin me in then being fine to second acting up again and just recently i lost 4th in the mix up aswell...so needless to say sooner the better thanks ahead of time

Especially in NY where the salt is bad, stuff underneath gets rusty. I'd start by inspecting the bushings in the shifter.

Try a search here under "Shifter Bushings" so at least you'll have some basic knowledge of the problem area when you talk to a mechanic.
April 28, 201015 yr This is something any shop can handle I am asuming this is a manual. I prefer Metric but there is a sooby shop www.donaldsonsvw.com Call them in advance, they should be able to do it in a day. How old is the clutch? nipper
May 1, 201015 yr I use a guy in Syosset - Al at Centre Auto on Underhill Rd near the LIRR Station. He fixed my tranny and other problems. (I think they changed their name but I don't remember it)
