I like subarus very much and I owned a 2000 rs and now own a 02 wrx.

I've been on i club and nasioc for a long time but I only just found this forum while researching the justy.

 

I was jogging about in my neighborhood the other day when I sighted what I thought was a brat being stored behind a stained glass shop. I got closer and I realized that it was actually an 88 justy with a chopped roof. The rear seat is out, and theres no hatch. The roof ends behind the heads of the two front seats. It is a 4wd manual trans. I haven't talked to the owner yet but I talked to another guy who said the owner was probably never gonna do anything with it. So I'm thinking I'd love to fix this thing up. I read about the geo motor swap. Sounds promising.

Some german company that sells convertible kits.

I think I'd need a rollbar to get some rigidity back.

 

Given the car probably does not run and the state it's in I'm gussing I should pay no more than 300 dollars for it. Is this right?

 

Any tidbits of advice or encouragement would be welcome. Thanks!

Price is really dependant on a lot of things.. where you are located is a big consideration.. No way to know, since you didn't include that fact under your name.... also, was the top done by the above mentioned german company? Or was it done by some druken redneck out behind his trailer with a cutting torch? The biggest consideration in price is how much you want it. If you want it bad enough, it is worth whatever you are willing to pay for it..

 

Without more pertinent information, I would say a non running justy is worth about $50.. $100 if the rest is in really good shape..

well you can be sure it was not done by that company in germany.

I am currently in Fresno, ca. The car is not in that great of shape. It is being stored uncovered, and it did just rain a few hours ago. I'm going to repaint and recarpet and I'm sure I can clean up the rest. I don't think rust is a big problem around here, but it's not exactly a sealed up car.

 

I also found a fellow on sound domian who says he wants to chop his justy, so I am wondering what justy owners know about this. When you see more than one pickup conversion of a rare(ish) old car there must be some kind of pattern. There must be people on here who know a bit about why/how this is done. Thats my guess.

 

I think 50 dollars is great, if only for the educational experience. Even if I never get it running!

If you want a project, start out with a better than $50 car, you'll end up paying less in the end with all the work you don't have to do. Find a good running 4wd justy and cut the top off, or buy this 50 dollar one, get it running and go jumping

I think this Justy would be the only one you would ever catch me driving. What a cool little bugger

Put some ATV tires on it and have your own personal Quad?

I would like a beater to drive about town to work and such.

AND since its chopped I can carry around my beater honda elite80 scooter in the back.
