Bad power steering?

Featured Replies

I have had a really bad side to side shake in my 83 gl wagon's steering. Recently the bearing on the power steering tensioner pulley went out and I had to drive it home with the belt off, the woble went away and the steering was perfectly smooth. I got the new bearing in and hooked up the belt and the woble is back with vengence. Could this be the steering rack? and also is there a non power steerin unit that I can hook up? thanks guys.

It sounds more like the pump. The pulsation is matching the rotation of the pump. There is probably a bad gear in the pump.

A rack would be stiff when cold when trying to turn the wheel (and I mean winter cold) or binding. It wouldnt be pulsing.
