If any one remebers my 97 obw only has 3 gears...but that's besides the reason of this post...from time to time the tranny will kick me out of 1st...at random times always from a dead stop if it does happen and tonight it poped out pretty hard (I was being stupid) but it got me me thinking I should realy get it fixed...so any advice. Would be great.

3 gears, pops out....is there any reason you're not considering getting another transmission? used trans are cheap, other alternatives aren't worth it typically.

Well the gears are in the tranny they just don't work all I need is to do my bushings

I just checked the tranny fulid and its fine so I'm at a loss for the poping out of gear

Popping out of gear because it's either damaged or it isn't being fully engaged. Worn shift bushings might cause this. It could also be caused by worn a transmission mount and pitch stopper (dogbone) mount causing the trans to flop all over the place when you try to accelerate.

 

Get new linkage bushings first, and inspect the trans mount bushings. If the problem persists you need a rebuild.

Ok well its good to know that I could be something really easy...but I still haven't done the bushings because there is a lot in the way and hard to get my hand in there let alone a wrench...I really hope its not a rebulid

I remember your post from a month or two ago, revving the engine and dropping the clutch will cause those symptoms, which is ironically the exact same thing we told you back then.

 

Get a new tranny and learn how to drive.

I do know how to drive...I don't do it all the time...this was the 1st time in a while that dosent make it better but there's gotta be something else

Simply stated, the components used when the car was constructed are designed around the typical use by a typical user. The vehicle you are driving was probably designed for transportation. Transmissions that go behind a race engine will take a significant amount of abuse before failure but they do fail. What you are driving is a low powered vehicle. It will not take abuse very long before it begins to not operate properly. Furthermore, the car probably has a significant number of miles on the parts. You cannot expect parts with a lot of miles on it to take that kind of abuse.

 

If you want to drive it like its stolen, plan on replacing drive line components frequently.
