1993 Subaru Loyale High Speed overheating

Featured Replies

My 1993 Subaru loyale is overheating but only when i am going over 70 MPH, it can handle stop and go traffic going up steep hills at 50 mph for 5 miles (parleys) temp is also fine when the car just sits and idles.

Any ideas.

on a side note unrelated hopefully, the outside temp is 95-100 degrees currently but the car still starts and idles at about 3000rpm until the motor is warm, i would usually expect this during the winter but not during the summer months, is there some type of choke system on this model that can go bad or needs to be adjusted?

Clogged radiator.

^^this Happened on my 87 GL-10 turbowagon. Fine around town, but not happy on freeway.

Make sure you get a 2 row replacement.

+1 on the radiator - I had the same issue on my 88 GL (EA82)

After posting I was reading around the site and it says to check for a clogged radiator check for cold spots. I did this and couldnt find any? Is the radiator the only thing that could cause this. I am a poor man,if it is clogged is there a way to unclogg it?

You might just check the pull a part yard out by the Airport for a car with a new looking radiator. Pretty common on these is to have a gasket, waterpump or thermostat problem and somebody tosses a new radiator in thinking it will fix the problem but it doesnt so they scrap it.

Been to that yard twice and both times it was OK, nothing like Denver for number of Subaru's but still ok.
