Plugs, Wire, cap, rotor where to buy dealer or parts store?

Featured Replies

Hey,

Is it better to go with the dealer on these parts or the local auto parts store?

Thanks

I buy all the tune up stuff at the auto parts store. It's way cheaper and the parts work fine. Seems that the recommended spark plugs are standard NGK's. Maybe ask for a middle of the road set of plug wires but the cap and rotor is whatever is cheap. At least that's what I do. And my subi's run pretty good. Usually.

I went with NAPA. NGK. Plugs wires cap & rotor were a little under $60, total, I think.

I got mine at Rock Auto.com $2.50 for the cap, $1something for the rotor and $3.59 for the wires. Some of the items were on closeout, but the regular prices are incredibly cheap for this stuff.

these engines run fine with anything. stock NGK wires are usually recommended but they can be bought anywhere, doesn't have to be subaru.

you're not replacing it but for future reference keep your stock coil, aftermarket coils are problematic and you're better off with a used one than aftermarket.

as a side note newer subarus (impreza/legacy) are often recommended to stick with subaru wires.

i love rock auto, better brand name stuff (like beck arnley) for cheaper than any parts store can touch price wise.. when the stuff is that cheap like for these old subarus, i usually order 2 of each and have a full tune up for next time i need it sitting on the shelf.. and buying 2 of each is STILL cheaper than buying 1 of each from advance auto, or auto zone!!!

Yeah,Rockauto prices are pretty good, until you go to check out and the shipping is more expensive than the cost of your parts.

I disagree. I bought front pads n rotors, rear shoes n drums, plus hardware kit and pad shim kit for my hatch 80 bux shipped for everything! The key with them is to try and have everything come frothe same warehouse!

That is the Key for sure. I know that when parts start coming from different places, the shipping prices go thru the roof. One thing for certain, you won't find loaded Beck Arnley calipers anywhere else for $50..
