NOOB- EA82T head swap ?

Featured Replies

I have a Few questions about my new GL-10 Project -

I have two Cars - one 86 and one 87 and i plan to make one car from the both. One motor has EGR and one doesn't. One dizzy has vac advance one doesnt. I plan to build it up mild perf with a little extra boost and an I/C. is There any benefit of keeping or deleting the EGR and Which Dist is Favored?

Also Does anyone know if you can just use non-turbo heads on the ea82t?

You cannot use non turbo heads - they are single port while the turbo's are dual port.

The fuel/ignition system of the 86 and 87 are not compatible. They changed the entire system in 87 such that parts from 85/86 models are completely different and not compatible. The distributors are optical in '87 and up and mechanical/hall effect in 85/86. Basically nothing about those two years you have is compatible with regard to the FI/ignition systems.

And you can't use Non turbo heads. Well, You could use the left bank head (I believe it's the same) but the right bank has oil and coolant ports for the turbo. Unless you plan on some pretty creative re-plumbing, it won't happen.

Non turbo heads are SINGLE INTAKE PORT. The turbo manifold will NOT bolt on. They are completely different and completely incompatible. Neither head will work.

See, learn something new every day. I never payed attention to the ports.
