98 forrester 2.5 coolant loss ?

Featured Replies

my forrester is consuming coolant. put a pressure tester on it..no pressure drop 4hrs later, is this an automatically a head gasket problem, any tricks to further diagnose to rule out, i was thinking it was the water pump.

Yep - head gasket fail. There's a leak that's only opening up when hot.

That's a classic head gasket failure-prone engine. OEM gaskets are $34 each :)

Two words - HELL NO.

Not on the EJ's. OEM is the stuff.

+1

PT's are great for EA/ER engines, but NOT EJ's.

just a wag but if you didn't experience classic EJ25 overheating symptoms i wouldn't be surprised if they were replaced years ago with some aftermarket gaskets.
