Wagon roof rails

Featured Replies

I'm buying another wagon that has a rack but no stiffeners on the roof.

Anyone know if those stiffeners are bolted or glued on? I would like to add them to protect the roof.

What year wagon? I know any of the EA82s are screwed with a sealant and same goes for the 1st and 2nd gen Legacy, Outbacks and Impreza wagons. If you get the screws with the rails, just drill a small pilot hole and thread the screw in.

They are easy to remove and reinstall. Just use some clear RTV on the screw holes before screwing them back in.

Cheers,

-Tom

97 lego,

I'm talking about the stiffeners, not the side rails.

Yes, that is what I am talking about too. :)

Yeah, the side rails are actually bolted though. Nuts under the headliner.

Okay , I get it that the side rails are screwed. So are the stiffeners screwed, bolted or just glued?

I gave you your answer in my first post.

The stiffeners are screwed threw the roof with metal screws, and is also sealed with some type of sealant. If your car doesn't have the rails, you can make a small hole, get some short self tapping metal screws, and then just before you screw them in, put some Black RTV in the hole and then screw your rails on. No worries about leaks.
