Clicking noise

Featured Replies

I drive a 97 legacy outback, and it's been completely problem free for about 9,000 miles now. Recently it started making a clicking noise, but only when i turn left and only out of first gear. I don't think it's a CV joint because of the fact it only happens out of 1st gear. Any ideas on what this might be?

Thanks

I'm having a similar issue as well, not 100% sure as to the cause but I'd lean towards a clutch job, I can hear my TOB spin real fast now when I change gears, and I get a clicking sounds up until the road noise deadens the sound. Let me guess your hearing the sound from somewhere near the dash in the center?

But my car does it in a straight line and on turns either direction.

So thats what that "whiny" sound is when I clutch in is?

CV joint probably. is the boot torn?

have the axles ever been replaced?

i bet the boot is good now but probably had a torn boot or it was replaced with an aftermarket axle, which often have all sorts of issues.

have you heard CV clicking before? if it sounds like that, then that's probably what it is.
