Have any of you been lurking on the other boards before your new car purchases?

Apparently there is an upcoming TSB to address the "shakers" that Subaru has recently produced. Anyone have any thoughts, and in general what do you think the quality of Subaru has turned to?

 

It does seem that people are really getting turned away by some of the more recent issues. Same as the engine problems the Legacy GT and impreza had.

I sure love my older ones but have not so much been able to justify saying the same on the newer ones which my family has had.

I'm not sure that many are being turned away...yet. SIA Lafayette, IN continues to have month after month of record breaking production.

Early on they had the "spring" fix for that issue, that didn't work. Hopefully this is the real deal this time. I'd be interested in knowing the cause of that debacle.

 

It's a tough market. You can't fault them entirely, business is not easy and has changed drastically in a couple decades for the auto industry. It's a very dynamic and long process. It's not like they decide to make something and throw it together in a year. They wouldn't be around if they were still making loyale wagons and ugly XT's making 90 hp.

 

I agree there are annoying issues that EJ's seem to have more prominently than older gen stuff. But they perform far better too, so it's not all bad news and all this keeps allowing me to drive really nice, new Subarus for cheap!

Our Subaru store continues to have record high sales volume as well. The effects of current problems will be seen 1-2 years from now, when/if current new owners throw Subaru under the bus for whatever reason.

 

 

What is the "Shaker" problem? That's a new one on me.

I'm not really a fan of the new ones. I like Impreza up to 07, Legacy only up to 99, Forester to 08. Don't really like the Tribeca at all. That's my opinion.

a vibration issues on 09/10 model outbacks i would assume is what he meant. it's been a total debacle. there's a really long thread on subaruoutback.org about it, probably stickied i'm sure.

 

subaru keeps shooting itself on this one. requesting new tires, then road force balancing which is really expensive. and a total waste, since it would be unacceptable to have that every time you get new tires anyway, and it didn't take long to realize it wasn't working....but they kept requesting it anyway.

 

i think it's helpful though - it forces people to make a decision "do i keep pursuing this or maybe i can just live with it". if folks decide to live with it, that lessens the burden on Subaru. it's a filter of sorts, that kind of stuff is used all the time in business and society.

 

then they started going with a change of a spring in the steering gear box...that didn't work either.

Maybe that's because people who want them don't know about all the problems?

 

 

I know, I would have thought the four years of head gasket horror would have turned more people away, but there's always a good supply of people who dont do research.

 

 

I think the tribeca is one of the few models in decline. Maybe because it looks so odd.
