Had to run to home depot and I came back out to to start it and it wont stay running at I cant tell if its the fuel pump or low fuel

Also no CEL

check for spark at all 4 cylinders....or at least one of them.

Spark I can do but I have no tools to pull fuel line

 

Before leting the car sit for awhile it would stumble trying to run but letting it cool it wont try to catch over now.. Like I said could be fuel or fuel pump. Im just waiting for AAA to get here now.

usually a last resort but fuel pump is sounding awfully suspicious.

 

you're at home depot - go borrow a screw driver for the fuel lines?

 

can you hear the pump priming when you turn the key? i've never tried to listen on newer ones, on older ones you could here them.

This is going to sound funny but I was never able to hear it when the car was running well.. Last time I checked it was in the fall

Hmm put in $20 still wont start its going to be awhile...

These fuel pumps don't prime when you turn the key on. They only power up when cranking. So you won't hear the pump at all when you turn the key on.

It has to prime.. When I last connected my fuel pressure gauge it would always prime just turning to on.. I made a youtube video of that..

 

Now that I'm inside and not in a 19F car now when I was driving to HD I noticed a slight lack of power but the car idled fine at the few min I had to wait at the light.. Only took 5 min in the store and went to leave and now no start.

Intake duct isn't split open is it?

Worth a look at least, but I'm thinking water in the fuel line/filter.

Bottle of Heet should help.

I wore the wrong kind of shoes tonight.. I needed my boots..

 

I did check the intake duct it was not split or anything.

 

 

i was searching on my phone while waiting for the truck and a few other people had issues like me like running in the store for 5 min and coming back to a car that wont start.

CTS (replaced less then 12 months ago)

 

I did keep the old CTS however..

 

So the story of what happened at Home depot was odd but I guess the sputtering when trying to get it to run was the left over fuel from the fuel filter? Because after the few cranks I did it no longer sputtered it just cranked and that was it...

 

So in the morning besides taking off the fuel pump outlet line and checking for flow what else should I check?

Speaking of tow trucks. I saw one towing a Mitsubishi Eclipse today... picked it up by the rear wheels. Front bumper was close to dragging on the road. Be glad you're not that person, and your driver was smart enough to go back for the correct type of truck. Seems like very few tow rigs carry wheel dollies anymore.

 

Edit: Pull the line off at the filter, and stick it in a clear plastic bottle. Turn the key to On and catch a few ounces of the fuel (if there is any) that comes out of the line when it primes. Let it sit a little while and look for little "bubbles" of water in it.

I think he would of just been better off with just the flatbed no matter what it was..

 

It really sucked because he was the only one in town and he had 10 other pulls after when he first dropped me off so it took about another hour 1/2 wait.. lucky for me a 24 hr laundromat was across the street.. my feet started to get frostbitten.

just went outside and connected the green connections.. I hear the fuel relay working and SB1 and SB2 under the hood are good..

 

I tested the pump connections and I see a quick battery voltage every time the fuel relay turns on but I hear no pump in the tank.

 

I'm looking at rock auto here now for pumps.. a lot of them seem to have one with two wires (black & red) and one with a plug in connection.. while I haven't pulled my assembly yet does anyone know off hand what type it is?

 

 

Would this work? I think it means the whole pump plus strainer? Speaking of that is it necessary to replace the strainer anyways?

i always pull the line going into the engine, but don't know if it matters or not, probably won't just for testing purposes.

 

looks like there's a bunch from $40-$60 on car-parts.com in connecticut, might be able to find one with saturday hours and have it today. the ebay one is used and $40 after shipping anyway or can ask them to match the price.

i tripled checked and yep no flow from the pump I was unsure so I just pulled the line from the pump to the fuel filter.. you could just see the dribble of gas sitting in the line.

 

this car-parts.com are they trust worthy? And the car-parts.com one is used too right?

well car-parts was pointless so far most of these places close at 12 pm on Saturday.

screw it.. most of those places are 50+ miles from me or close at 12 PM or the stock in a trailer that they can't get to till Monday...

 

I think I'm just going to order the part from ebay I can just take the train. I did it for almost 3 years before I got this car so what's a few days worth?

car-parts.com is awesome. all it is is an online database of most of the junkyards in North America. most junk yards close at noon on saturdays, it's rare to find any open behind that....some aren't even open saturdays at all.

 

if you don't mind buying a used part then car-parts.com is the way to go - you can search for the lowest price, buy stuff from the south/west (for no rust), find something close, etc. it beats calling around and they all ship (except for huge stuff sometimes).

Does anyone have a picture of the fuel pump assy for a 1995? Most of the stuff I see online is for WRX.

 

I guess since I will have this all out I might as well replace the seal between the fuel assy and tank?

I just went ahead and took the whole assembly out for now.

 

great, thanks for the pic's, i have one i need to pull sometime in my OBW. looks like i need a pump and gasket and looks really simple.

yeah it's very simple.. it took me longer to get the hoses off the top assembly then it took to put it back in.

 

so back in the house.

 

 

So I go ahead and take the pump off the fuel assembly and try to fire it up again.. (all I did was take the rubber hose off the line) and the pump started working..

 

Sounds pretty flaky to me.

 

So I popped it back in the car and sure enough I turn the car to "ON" and I hear the pump prime the line and the car starts...

 

Well I ordered a new Bosch pump better to be safe then sorry.

you didn't do anything, just removed it and reinstalled it? will you come work on mine!? LOL. good job figuring it out so quick.

 

mine works I just run out of fuel as soon as the gas light comes on, so others said i have something wrong at the base/mesh screen. could you tell by looking at yours what might be wrong with mine?

 

or - did your new bosch unit come as an entire assembly with the screen and all - in which case it shouldn't matter.
