99 OBW runs poorly

Featured Replies

Ok I have a customer with a 99 OBW 2.5, 5speed,130,000. The issue is that when the car warms up it starts to miss(real bad). It feels like a bad wire. The only code is a cam positon sensor code. replaced the sensor 2x with good used ones. Still missing. Any thoughts? Thanks,Craig

Oddly enough. I just had one doing the same thing, but it was a 97 GT wagon. Had a pretty decent miss to it, and a Cam sensor code. After playing around with it for a little, I swapped out the ignitor and it took care of the problem. Might be worth a try if you have one laying around.

i was going to swap out the whole intake. i have several good ones left over from 2.2 swaps. Ill switch the ignitor first. Do you mean ignition module or the coil pack.

Is there a CEL for the misfire? I recent had a misfire that wasn't causing a CEL unless it was wet. Turned out to be the coil. Replaced the coil and life was good again.

For me it was the module, the one mounted to the firewall in the center. I mean, it's odd considering I only had the cam sensor code. But I had tried different cam and crank sensors, but still had the miss (no codes for that), tried a coil. Last I changed the ignitor and that took care of it.

ill try both and let everyone know whats up... weird that it can have a miss with no cylinder missfire codes.

I know, that particular car had me thinking for a little. It was a very obvious miss, lol. On Board Diagnostics my rump roast.
