Question about Subaru RX

Featured Replies

Hi guys This is my first post and I am rather new to subarus so I have a few questions. First off I have searched and looked on the net and I have found little info. I have a question about the RX turbo. I have the chance to buy one in descent shape and I want to make it my daily driver/pass car and I was woundering what things I should look out for when I go look at it again tomorrow. I was also woundering Is it possible to put a Blow off Valve on it even though it does not have an intercooler? I was woundering becasue I have heard BOV help save the life of the turbo, plus sound kind of neat.

Thanks guys sorry If I have come off as a total New bee.

Derek

Derek found my site and emailed me. I answered some of his questions, and referred him here.

hehehe

My GL-10 Turbo 4WD Sedan has the same engine as the RX, I don't have a BOV on it, and I have not had any problems with the turbo. The turbos have a bypass valve in them that are pressure controlled, under normal driving this is good enough. However, if you plan to use your right foot extensively, you might want to go a route similar to Tex and Skip here on the board, and install an intercooler. I think this is where the BOV comes in handy, not to save the turbo, but to save the IC. Most people vent the BOV to the air, I say to vent it just up stream of the turbo intake, this will help lessen any turbo lag on shifts by keeping the turbo spinning.
