running temperture for the ej20 series

Featured Replies

hey there all my partner has just purchased this series motor an the car runs at half way all day ive been informed that they are a hot running motor do they run at half temp

 an the motor bay smells like she cooking with the extreme heat

can any111111 out their answer this problem or slove thanks

year, model, and miles would help.

the temp gauges do ride at the mid point most of the time, once it warms up. the 96 - 99 ej25 has a tendency to overheat due to bad head gaskets, but most of the other EJs do not. if they run higher than that something is out of whack, normally.

'cooking' could be oil leaking on to the exhaust or an busted axle boot. look under the car and see if it has oil any where.

Is this a naturally-aspirated EJ20? We (as in, the USA) never got the naturally-aspirated EJ20, so our help will be limited.

second this.... I've had many engines that stayed right in the middle of the guage, but due to oil leaks (or grease from the inner right DOJ on the cat), smelled really bad when running...
