Keyless door entry 97 outback

Featured Replies

From the service manual if I have it, it would be under the kick panel on the drivers side? I can't tell if a after market alarm was installed because under the hood you can see here is a speaker but I'm not sure if thats the stock location..

In this picture it's right behind the MAF

And inside in one of the blank panels is the red security light but does not have any words on it.

having said that does anyone know the part number for it?

not sure of the the part number, but that is where my 1998 outback alarm speaker is located. The Subaru-Code alarm unit was ziptied up under the dash almost touching the driver side kickpannel.

So it's possible it could already be installed but someone lost the remotes (weird?)

having said that I have a spare transmitter from my 2003 Forester XS :(

I wonder if I can use that?

When I pick the car up in the morning I will check under the dash..

I know the part number for it but just wanted to be 100% sure before I went to order the part for it.

The security system looks to be similar to the ones that were installed on the 98-01 RS's. Supposedly, they were mainly a dealer add on and they were kinda just thrown anywhere that would fit. The security system piggybacked off of the keyless, I do believe. The speaker/siren for mine was mounted against the firewall right above the master cylinders.

The red light won't have any words on it. It is in fact, a button. There should also be another button down right at the very bottom of the dash where your shins would be.

It could also be an aftermarket alarm. My outback had a Viper alarm installed by the PO that controls the keyless access. It automatically locks the doors after 5 seconds of the ignition being on and unlocks when the ignition is turned off. Like you, I have the horn on the firewall and the red light in the knockout panel for reserved for some other function.

You could also look for a reset button ziptied underneath the area. Most people installing aftermarket systems usually dont care about it and leave it haning.

Viper sells replacement remotes but they are stupidly expensive. A replacement for mine was like 80 bucks.....

I will check tomorrow morning but I can't seem to find a replacement remote if it is the stock Subaru system?

Ebay? I hate referring people there becuase I don't like using but that's all I can think of. I can just about bet it was the same remote that my RS had. Care to post a picture of the button when you get a chance?

I just thought of something.. So the battery was dead because the car was sitting so long and when I hooked my jump pack to it, all other things say the parking lights should flash but as far as i can remember i don't think I saw them flash.

There should be a yellow label on one of the battery terminals. If it is missing that, it may be an aftermarket unit afterall.

My Subaru system doesn't have the yellow on the battery side. Can you get pictures of the alarm unit under the dash to show us? Maybe remove it or pull it out? I think that would help us figure out what clicker you need and how to program it.

I do know on the Viper alarm if you disconnect the battery and recconect, the lights will flash for like 4 times then stop for 5-10 or so minutes and flash 4 times again. This will continue untill you hold down the reset button under the dash.

I found that out when I changed my alternator at my cousins house last year.

When the lights flash does the indicator on the gauge flash?

Hard to see on my phone but will check when I get home

now that I'm home that horn speaker is placed 100% like the factory write up...

I'm going to check as soon as I get to the car which should be about 2 hours from now.

It looks to clean to be aftermarket IMHO.

When the lights flash does the indicator on the gauge flash?

yep, just the indicators.

seems to be aftermarket I saw it when looking for the seat heater fuse I will try and grab a pic before it gets too dark.

It seems the unit is crime stoppers but I'd have to check when its less damp and brighter out.

It has a red push button near the fuse panel.. not sure what it does lol

man that thing is up under the dash good I really still cant tell what model it is.. Is it worth saving? I just want the keyless entry lol.

I'm so close to just ripping it out and installing the factory keyless entry.
