98 Impreza High Idle Fixed, SeaFoam

Featured Replies

I got my 98 Impreza back from the kids and the idle was high, 1250 or so.

Everything looked good under the hood so I figure it was the IAC.

1/4 bottle into the 1" air hose, let it sit 20 minutes

Start it up, had to floor it to clear the seafoam

1/4 bottle pulled in through the Vaccume port on the top of the TB

Stop the engine, 1/4 bottle into the air hose again

Let it sit 20 Minutes and repeat.

Took it for a drive to blow everything out, idle 550-600 and smooth as can be. SeaFoam works!

Yea, SeaFoam work great. The only negative that I have heard about the product, is that it is hard on seals.

This would probably only apply to using it in the crankcase oil, but then again, you only want to do so immediately before an oil change.

Otherwise, the general consensus says SeaFoam is great!

High idle came back today so I went in for the deep clean. Q-Tip and lots of cleaner. I can't fault Seafoan the car has 297K on it.

Before, if you just doing the intake track, not much will get in the oil.

If you are doing it into the oil, only run it at idle and for 30 minutes or less. You have diluted the oil, and should not run it under load or you may spin a bearing.

That's my thoughts anyway.

I have high idle on my car.. it's high enough that I can put the car in first gear and let the clutch out slowly and it will ride along like it's in a auto not putting on the brakes.

I'm going to guess it's my IAC I had the same problem on my 95 the idle would but jumpy right after starting when warm.. on this car it shoots up to like almost 2K when warm.

Stupid me I was right at the dealer today and I forgot to pick the gasket up for the IAC...
