1981 BRAT cross member on 1977 coupe frame?

Featured Replies

Can I fit a 1981 BRAT front cross member on the frame of a 1977 GL Coupe frame?

I'm trying to update the drive train of my 1977 coupe to EA81 running gear.

Don't see why not. Is the coupe a stage 2? It should bolt in AFAIK

Stage 1

You should be able to do it... The late stage 1 has the steering gearbox sitting on top of the engine cross member, rather than underneath as in the early stage 1s. This would mean it is similar to the '81 cross member.

I've always wanted to do what you're doing , Earl , but man can't you find a more of a beater example to do that to? :)

I know, I know... (you old school purest are so particular).

I want to go with a complete EA81 drive train. I've got a guy in AUS. that's going to ship me some duel port heads & a duel carb set up for an EA81. So I want to build the crap out of the motor (EA71 pistons, H.P. cam grind...).

I'm going to strip the body down to bear metal and straighten out all of the dings and patch in the few small rust areas.

I just need to start collecting all of my parts then the build begins.
