My buddy has an 85 RX with a slipping clutch and was wondering if he could get a heavy duty unit for his car.I thought I had seen someone here post that an XT6 clutch could be used on an RX with the 5 speed d/r. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

I have been wondering the same thing. I know subspeed was working on a HD clutch a while back.

well, i have a feeling that those autozone/shucks/advance clutches are the problem..

 

my 85 rx had a new clutch put in it about 15k before i bought it.. that thing slipped like a mofo..

 

now in my turbo wagon i bought the clutch, flywheel, and PP from the dealer..

 

when i got the engine outa the RX i compared the 2 side by side..

 

the one in the RX had half as many grooves in the disc as the one from the dealer, and was also burnt to hell..

aside from the grooves they looked the same..

 

 

when i first bought the wagon it had an AZ clutch in it and it slipped but was fairly new too.. thats why i replaced it all with OE..

 

so imo just from my personal experience with this issue, i'd say go buy a clutch kit from the dealer, it won't slip.. and the price diff, might be at the most $20 more, lol

 

so far the 2wd turbo setup is working great in the RX..
