87 DL No Blinkers?

Featured Replies

Hey guys, I just bought a 87 DL Hatchback 4WD with EA81. Its got 202K and has barley been driven in the 6-7 years. Funny thing...flashers are working (drivers side only) but neither blinker will work... is that a bad ground or what? Not sure where to start... any suggestions would help. Thanks.

Wes

For the flasher's working one side only,

I'd check the bulbs on the non-working side 1st.

Fuse is good as system operates some what.

For the turnsignals not working,

Do either of the dash indicator's light when you try each sides turnsignal?

No dash indicator(s) = bad fuse, missing/bad turnsignal flasher, defective switch/wiring.

Ya I will have to check the fuses. I know subies are known for electrical issues in the 80s....neither one of the blinkers are working outside or on the dash, however, when push the flashers button just the drivers side blinks on the drivers side on the dash and outside. Dont think it would be possible that all the bulbs on one side are all out. I am thinking a fuse or flasher unit. Never replaced flasher unit before, where is it at and does oreilly or autozone have one or is that a factory order item?

Ok. Just going by what the Hayne's Manual is telling me;

Fuse 5 15 amp is for the Hazards, White wire, Always Hot.

Fuse 10 15 amp is for the turnsignals. Green/White wire, Hot with Key "ON"/Start only.

Power from both is fed into the turnsignal/hazard switch, out of that there's the following wiring.

Green/Blue wire for everything on the Left side,

Green/Red wire for everything on the Right side.

Black for Ground.

No mention of an actual Flasher unit. (thinking there has to be one though)

I think power to the turn signals passes through the emergency flasher switch. Try cycling that switch a number of times to see if that helps. If it doesn't then you may need to replace it.
