August 16, 201114 yr Soooo...it's been while since I posted anything. Last issue with THE BEAST was an intermittant emissions problem. Thanks to various suggestions from the forum and a whole lotta checking, it got straightened out and back on the road. Now THE BEAST ('91 Loyale sw, 1.8L EA82) is feeling a might poorly again, only this time it's having problems with its hind legs. Luckily, it waited until I wasn't doing 70mph down the highway to go down. Without further ado, the damage. So there it is, folks. Hoping I can cure it with some fresh steel and a little quality-time with the welder. Any and all suggestions are welcome. Be it known forthewith that, should this malady prove terminal, there will be parts.
August 16, 201114 yr Geez mate! My first uttered comment when I saw the subframe rust was "sh*te!" If you're dead keen on the vehicle I'd suggest a new K frame be dropped in rather than trying to weld it back together! Cheers Bennie
August 16, 201114 yr There is one of those in a local Jy down in Richmond and I could try to pull that for you, or you can come on down and we can work it together.
August 16, 201114 yr mmm, ruuuuusssssttttt Hopefully you have enough intact steel to weld to for the repair. That looks like a project.
August 16, 201114 yr If you want to participate in traffic on public roads safely I guess only a replacement subframe would be a solution...
August 16, 201114 yr If you want to participate in traffic on public roads safely I guess only a replacement subframe would be a solution... I had an 82 GLF. I literally drove it until the wheels fell off! Freak road salt impairment, right?
August 17, 201114 yr That poor scooby! i feel greatful that mine has only spots of rust that arent too big, best of wishes to our fallen friend:dead:
