can i put spfi on a carbed ea82 block

Featured Replies

I have a loyale with a burnt motor. I have an ea82 carbed motor sitting in the garage. Can I just swap intakes and such and make this thing run again. Thanks

You will have slightly less power because the carbed pistons have a lower compression ratio than the SPFI pistons, but it will run fine and everything will bolt right up.

IIRC using that will lower your compression, so youll see slightly less power, but you should gain reliability...

my manual says the compression is the same. 9.5 to 1 for spfi and carb ea82. i just put a carb motor in my 91 spfi loyale, and converted it. this motor is better than the other one i had, leading me to believe my book. i had to change the egr pipe on the top of the head (the fasterners were different) and plug the egr ports on the exhaust ports. i left my intake and everything hooked up in the car and put a new longblock in.

good luck, RV

Carb is 9 to 1, spfi is 9.5 to 1. It's not a big difference, and you won't notice it driving. It does help make the carb shortblock a better donor for a turbo car than a spfi/mpfi shortblock.
