Hello!

Hello I'm from Windsor Ont. putting new heads (rebuilt) on a 2000 Impreza Brighton 2.2l. Wondering what is the best approach? I hear you have to pull the motor, any ideas?

I hear torquing the bolts is crucial...also acquiring the redesigned gasket as well....

Here's a link to the engine section of the USMB repair manual.

Yes there is a particular sequence to torquing the bolts so read a lot before you wrench a little. Almost forgot, welcome to the site. You will find some talented members who are very generous with their knowledge but it is best to use the search function and a Haynes manual may be of help.

welcome! :) people are always willing to help here. tons of info here as well. ive heard that you can remove an engine mount and jack up one side of the engine to give yourself just enough space to get the heads off..... a buddy of mine did that to his ej25 because he didnt have a hoist to get the engine out.

happy wrenchn!

If I jack one side do I have to unbolt the tranny?

Can be done without removing engine, But, it's a real PITA.

The pasenger side is fine. The driver side is the kicker.

Remove the washer bottle. Disconect and tie out of the way any lines that will be in the way.

The EGR line needs a 17mm wrench. Flare type would be best.

Removing the valve cover would give you more room.

The hard part is keeping the bolts from sliding down and preventing alignment. Finally tried paper towels, so the bolts would'nt slide but so far. Worked.

Double check all your unplugged connectors.

O.

May I suggest something?

If you really want to do the work inside the car (and even if you don't), start by washing the engine compartment *really* good...
