So theres a box right next to the distributor on my 86 GL wagon with an EA82.

I noticed it was making a loud ticking noise, I put my hand on it and it stopped.

 

What is this for??? and why would it stop making noise when I apply light pressure?

when I first got the car there was a little bracket wedged under the spare tire support and I had no idea why until earlier

I think it runs inline with the EGR system or something.

Is it a box or a cover? IIRC there is a black elbow cover that sits on top of an egr line that will make noise when the bracket gets old so I rip em off.
