Soooo..found a few potential soobs for lifting

Thats what i have been eyeing so far. Im considering no more than a mild 4in lift. Let me know what you guys think. ....and yes im a noob :banana:

First 2 are the same ad, and that's a BAD option for a lifted rig, as it's FWD. More work needed to make it AWD. Second one is a good DD car, I wouldn't bother lifting it. Same with the first outback. The outbacks are already lifted some, no real need to lift it that much more. But the last one is the one I would go for. Already looks trashed a little, and it's cheap. This would be a good candidate to lift, even though it's an outback.

 

Honestly thought I would look into a 1st gen legacy 90-94, or an ea82 if I wanted a lifted rig. The ea82's are cheaper, cheaper to lift, lighter, and generally make for a better lifted rig. The legacy's lift alone is almost 2x as expensive as the ea82 lifts. $700 compared to $400. I can't wait to lift my 1st gen legacy :-)

 

Is this for a wheeler or a DD?

OK damn didnt mean to post the same one twice lol....and also didnt notice it was fwd. This vehicle will be a dd and weekend mild wheeler toy. I only have a 7 mile commute right now so just want to save my tahoe from the weekly uselessness of driving it when i dont have to. I know the outbacks have a mildly high ride height from the factory but i want more. 2-4 in lift is all i would want...just something to play in some light mud every now and then and then be usueable/fun in our 6-8in snow storms we seem to get every winter here. I havent seen many pics of lifted 90-94 legacys and school me again what models are the e82's? Im a pretty big guy so some of the newer models fit me better.

All you have to do is change the seats to get more room.

 

Personally - there is nothing that makes a better wheeler than an EA81 Hatch and if you are going to build a Subaru into a hard-core unit then that is THE platform to start with. Shortest wheel-base, best departure angle, lightest weight. EA82's are too heavy and their stock engine's are underpowered and have horrible cooling systems with single-core radiators.

 

I would say a close second (and my next "mild" wheeler project) is going to be a first generation Forester automatic. Especially the '99 models as they have a 173 HP EJ253 that comes with a factory oil cooler. Shorter and lighter than the Legacy's because they are based on the Impreza platform..... they have the power to push larger tires and the auto works like a low range and can be setup to lock into true 4WD or to change the front/rear torque bias with a DCCD like controler. The 4EAT auto's are quite good and can be modified to suit many purposes.
