2.2 timing belt install question

So I got my heads rebuilt & installed, my question is how do you rotate the cam gears and crank so as not to cause valve damage when lining up marks? It is an interference motor.

If you line up the mark on the crank pully it puts all the pistons in the middle. So you can turn the cams all day long and you won't get interference.

agree. line up the center mark for the crank gear to the mark. that drops all the pistons lowest from the heads and out of the way. leave the crank there the whole install. Then align cams and slap the belt on using the marks on the belt.

The EJ22 (assuming that is the motor you are referencing with 2.2) is a non interference engine. You can sping the cam all day long with the piston at TDC and not cause any problems.

Wrong. 97 and above the 2.2 IS an interference engine.

You have a lot of helpful experts on this board. There are also a number of execellent videos on YouTube on how to replace a timing belt on a 2.2L Subaru engine.
