Take my Kayak to the River

Will the US 2002 Legacy GT sedan accept a roof rack?

i've been real pleased with the thule stuff. i had a setup on my old civic. i drove 4500 miles to alaska and back with a 18' sea kayak on the roof and it didn't move an inch. when i got my subaru, it only cost me $100 for a new kit to attach it to the roof rack. check ebay, that's where i got my stuff. it is way overpriced new...

Thanks, Craig. I can open a window and throw a rock into the Hudson, yet I have to car-top a kayak to a place where I can easily put-in. :)

I'm down the road in Kingston/Woodstock

It's a small world/Internet! How's the Rondout (sp?) for kayaking/canoeing?

I saw some folks kayaking in the river/creek that runs through Catskill (Schohare?) this past weekend. That got me to thinking about watersports.

Lots of people canoe and kayak the Rondout Creek, but I have never done it personally.

I think you're thinking about the Esopus Creek? Lots of people are always kayaking that (some parts are supposed to be pretty good), but it's not good for canoeing until you drop in below the Ashokan Reservoir somewhere in Hurley or Stone Ridge.

Is it legal to put a human-powered boat in the Ashokan?

Know any good independent Sub. mechanics in that area? Any that do body work?

The only kind of boat you can put in the Ashokan Reservoir is a row boat/John boat. NYCDEP regulates that so that the use of the water doesn't become 100% recreational...just fishing :)

As far as independent mechanics and body stuff, I really have no idea. I've tried a couple of small shops with limited success, and everytime I need bodywork done I've been out of the area.
