anyone have one? or know where i can get one? im already sick and tired of this hitatchi and i found today i have a huge vacuum leak around the throttle blade shaft so the time has come for a weber i would put this in parts wanted but odds are it would get ignored there

Some EA71 intake manifolds are made to fit the larger EA81 carb. If you have this or can find one then you can simply buy the Redline kit.

 

The Weber 32/36 is a BIG carb. Are you sure you want to use it on a stock EA71?

 

Hitachi carbs are a dime a dozen at the wreckers here. Plus you can get rebuild kits easy enough. Have you thought about rebuilding?

 

In my opinion there really is nothing wrong with Hitachi.

 

Most carb problems seem to be age and maintenance related.

i dont think i have the newer intake i think its the stock one from 78

 

i already have the weber i just need the adapter because i know its different then the datsun adapter i have

 

i have already gone threw and used a rebuild kit on the hitatchi the problem is there is so much play in the throttle blade shafts that it is causing a huge vacuum leak to the point that when the car is running i spray carb cleaner on it and the rpms jump buy about 700 its so bad that unless i have the idle turned up to about 1500 the thing wont even run if you have a base to a hitatch that has no play i would be interested in that for sure

im trying to see what comes along first i just did the rebuild so fixing the hitatchi would be awesome either way it will be fixed i cant keep the 1500 rpm idle forever

so if anyone has either a weber adapter or the bottom half of a hitatchi that has no shaft play at the throttle blades let me know i need one of the othere a.s.a.p.

hmm well my carb is fine in mine but I was thinking of the upgrade to the webber I have one as well but not sure where to get an adapter for it either, Would Subaru still carry these parts or some after market place. I just dont know

I Used a Datsun to Weber adapter made by TransDapt (2107) on my EA82.

 

I'm Sure they'll have something that Fits the EA71.

If you are talking about old datsons (510 etc) they do NOT fit. The adaptor for ea71 is the same as ea81. I tried lining up the old datson pattern and they are not close enough to use on ea71. ea82 are different, so the datsons may line up with them. dunno.

I have never seen different manifolds, the ea71 carbs and ea81 carbs use the same bolt pattern, I have used manifolds from 77, 79 and 80, never saw anything different, and mounted webers on them all with the same adator. And as far as a weber maybe too big for a ea71, they run GREAT with webers. They are smooth and hassle free carbs. maybe there is nothing wrong with hitachis, but webers are better.

I'm pleased to hear that The 32/36 works well on the EA71. Its something I have yet to try. Here in NZ the EA71 normally comes with a smaller 26/30 carb which has a smaller bolt pattern than the EA81 28/32.

 

I guess the US Ea71s are standard with the 28/32. Which would explain your comments.

 

I still suspect that a New Weber 32/36 is such a vast improvement since it is mostly replacing a tired 20 plus year old carb which is simply not operating correctly anymore.

 

Just a note on performance. The wifes Alfa 33 is a 1500 boxer with twin Weber 40/40 IDF. It has great high rpm performance and responce but my EA71 with 28/32 Hitachi has heaps more low end power. I regularly tow with the soob. I wouldn't try towing with the Alfa.

 

P.S. My Hitachi has linkage secondary, manual choke and no vaccum accessories (not even vac advance) Also no PCV on manifold.

Agreed 100%. I have to admit I have never had a hitachi that was operating at 100% but the simplicity of the weber ids part of it's beauty. If a correction needs to be made, the weber is super simple. The tunability is supreme. If you are so incline to throw one on an ea71 I say give it a shot and I am betting you will love it.

1979 1600dl sedan. Front wheel drive.

 

The stock setup was a hitachi 26/30 with linkage secondary. NO PCV just breather hoses into the air filter.

 

Pretty much the only vaccum ports are for the vac advance (via carb) and the brake booster on the manifold.

 

I now run the same setup but with the bigger carb.
