November 27, 201114 yr My 95 legacy 2.2 has a random no start issue...no real pattern..will start fine, the when you go to start it again,no go...turns over fine.Figuring fuel or ignition problem.Car runs fine otherwise. This was a problem from the previous owner,so i don't have allot of history..any thoughts on where to start? Also,i have the hill holder unhooked. Is there any adjustments that need to be made so the brakes dont drag? In other words does the HH need to be hooked up? thanks.
November 27, 201114 yr I had this exact problem with a 2.2 swap I did a few years ago. He tried both sensors (cam and crank) with used ones I had and I believe he did cam first and after crank no more problems. Crank sensors can be hard to remove here in the rust belt though.
November 27, 201114 yr mine had the same problem and i changed the idle air control valve and it stopped.....
November 28, 201114 yr In addition to the above items, the engine coolant temperature sensor can cause this sort of problem, but I think usually it is the other way around (wont start when cold, but will when warm).
November 28, 201114 yr Author Im going to try the IAC first. The car does a weird low to 1300-1500 rpms when its first started..revs up and down exactly 5 times before it settles in,every time. Thanks for the tips!
November 28, 201114 yr if it revs like that it is the iac.... i got a junkyard one and it cured the no start problem but now evey once in awhile it revs up and down just like you stated.....its like a $300 part btw hope that solves the problem
November 28, 201114 yr You might start by removing your old IACV and giving it a thorough cleaning. The only new part you'd need is a small gasket. Clean the rubber tube from the PCV too, and maybe get a new PCV. Good luck.
