Can anybody take a photo of the front bellhousing of a FWD 5spd ea81 trans for me? I have a seal leak on a customer car and I don't remember if theres a plate or something that can be removed to access it or if you have to split the case like any of the other tranny's I have dealt with.

i've got the service manuals, do you know what section i can maybe try to take a pic of the manual, if that would help any.

If you find it in a manual let me know what page. Ive got 83 and 84 books here in FSM. Most of the photos are 4spd 4wd.

I have the manual out, but not sure what place to look. It shows 5spd fwd but not lots to see.

The quill is cast into the tranny like an EJ transmission or a single range 4WD and you can't access the front input shaft seal without splitting the case. I can scan the tranmission case diagram from my fsm if you like....

 

Purely acedemic - but I don't know of any Subaru manual transmissions where the input shaft seal can be replaced without splitting the case. That goes for D/R, AWD, 2WD, etc.
