January 25, 201214 yr Today Justy (the Justy) had a am/fm/wb/cd player installed. If it had a black face it would look right at home, but it does not . Oddly it sounded great on the original front speakers. Now I am looking for rear speakers. This being a 1989 the package tray is not a lot to talk about. I don't want to cut holes in the plastic package tray. The odd thing, well normal for a car of that time, it is wired for rear speakers but no place to mount them anywhere. Does anyone make small on-deck speakers anymore. I see pioneer has some 3 way speakers, but two of them I think would bridge the width of the car
January 25, 201214 yr http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pioneer-TS-44-Full-Range-Surface-Mount-Car-Speakers-/200692887169?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item2eba3a6e81#ht_547wt_835 those were okay, although i would drop in a polk woofer in place of the pioneer. Stuff the back inside with some old pillow stuffing, then apply some rope caulking on the bottom to make them airtight for best bass response. Not too many theives go for simple stuff these days.
January 25, 201214 yr Author I can't seem to find them in the USA, but that is what I was hoping to find.
January 25, 201214 yr I can't seem to find them in the USA, but that is what I was hoping to find. cause those speakers are nearly as old as when i was in elementray school. like said, replace the woofers with some polks. And, that ebay price is NOT good at all, you could buy 3 sets for that price when they were available here.
January 25, 201214 yr Author Oh I would, but I think your missing the point sort of. If I could find those housings, I would gut them, it is the housing (box) that would be of huge help. I could care less if they were empty.
January 25, 201214 yr Yeah i just want housings too, no loaded speaker, but for a decent price. those housings are perfect for my Gl hatchback sides rear, the Brat behind the seats, and my Civic hatch and CRX.........small, conspicuous, and mount well....
January 25, 201214 yr Another option might be some old bose 102, but you would have to research impedance ohms for auto use to see if they would work, and those might be something the thieves would snatch and smash your car to get.
January 25, 201214 yr Author Thats why I want something verry boring and blah. We really dont have a stereo problem here in NY anymore, but I dont want to tempt fate.

They see anything small like those single surface mount, they will pass on bye. They something nice big shiny and thumpy, they say, oh yeah, amp, big nice sub, and a pricey headunit, smash window, trash, break dash, grab, run. I have been the side that got my stuff ripped off, several times in the old crx, now i have no radio and the back cargo cover is off the car, they can see in and see no woofer, no radio. I get no broken windows.
January 25, 201214 yr Author They see anything small like those single surface mount, they will pass on bye. Thats the idea Otherwise I have to mount speakers in the cargo area which would choke them off. There is no place else to mount speakers anywhere, and they are not referenced anywhere in the FSM.

January 25, 201214 yr Author God i havent seen those Pyramid speakers since college, way back. I forgot about those, they actually had decent sound.
January 25, 201214 yr the pyles, could be sprayed to black...have mixed reviews as well but for 20 not bad to try. I could get a set to try out in my home and report back. actually, I think i will do just that.
