I hear the key beep/alarm when driving

Featured Replies

You know the loud, high-pitched beep that sounds when the car is off and you put your keys in the cylinder? I hear that randomly when I am driving. It will beep once or twice or sometimes more often. I've tried jiggling the ignition key but it doesn't seem to stop the beeping (or start it). It's getting annoying. Any ideas?

Check the dome light switch at the door. It may be making enough contact to trgger the chime but not enough to really light the light.

I will check that next time it happens. It might be unrelated, but the rear defroster stopped working. Gotta check the fuse for that....

no need to wait, just replace it as it is a dinky enough part, or try to clean it.

I'll take a look at it. Raining/snowing at the moment.

I'm having a similar problem. The car beeps not stop on some trips and sometimes not more than usual. It seems to be worse when raining or really humid but that is justa theory. The door switch is working fine showing the open door on the dash indicator and the dome light turns on and off as it should. I read in another post that it could be the ignition key sensor that senses the key in the ignition. I'm looking at the 2 wires coming from the switch on top of the ignition assembly and I'm debating cutting the black or the black with white stripe. I'm shooting for the ground. Is there anything else that would set off the chime? Any advice or thoughts are always welcome. Thanks

This is a video of my issue. It's very annoying. Any help or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

You haven't tracked down the beeper and unplugged/destroyed it yet?!

Does the dome light stay on while you're driving? That I think would indicate if its a door switch problem. Otherwise it's probably a poor contact or short in the switch on the lock cylinder.
