A question for newer Subaru Owner's

Featured Replies

I have a 2007 Subaru Outback and the airbag light has been coming on intermittently for the past 12-18months; Having visited with the local area service manager he said more than likely it is a error code as a result from an open circuit coming from the sensor on/near the roof. Can anyone shed light on this matter? And also, are others having this same issue?

Owners, not owner's.

Have you taken it to the dealer for diagnosis? That's the only way to know for sure.

I've seen the issue once before and its a harness problem. Either replace the harness with a new one or find where the issue is and fix it.

Or deal with it until you get rid of it IF you do.

It's most likely an INTERMITTENT harness/connector problem, the very worst kind! Intermittent harness "opens" can be very difficult to find.

My question:

Is the air bag intermittently losing the ability to fire, or is it just a "reporting" problem? If you're actually intermittently losing the ability to fire, that is a much more serious situation.

What matter which, a blinking air bag light is likely to affect the resale/trade-in vaue of this car. With a good set of electical schematics and a DVM, you might be able to track it down. There are very important safety precations to take before working on airbag circuits.
