Best head gaskets?

Featured Replies

Does anybody know the part number for head gaskets on a 2004 outback 2.5 SOHC. I am having trouble finding them on 1stsubaruparts.com. If I have the part number I think it will work. Thanks for any help you can give.

you are going to want to buy a subaru gasket.

iirc,

there was a post just this week or last by user ''ccrinc'', emily said they have had some trouble with the 00 - 04 head gasket from subaru so they have started using the ''turbo'' gasket. she may have posted the part number look for her post.

are local subaru dealer sells what they call a half gasket set is ment for when they change one piston out comes with all the gaskets to do one side of the engine i get two of those is cheaper than full set

Not necessarily, there are some good aftermarket ones like the six star. Read all the threads and get as much info as you can, and then you can make an informed decision your self.

I work for an independent Subaru shop and all we use are the Six Star head gaskets. Only time I have seen them fail is either from improper installation or something catastrophic happens to cause the engine to overheat like from a blown radiator.

Six star and Cometic are both good aftermarket brands, and not much more than OEM.

I have seen a few more complaints about Cometic on the STi side of things, but a lot of that has to do with installation/application error. A stock application HG with standard head bolts will fail at high boost; no matter the brand.

Thats actually the shop I work for.:D

Good deal! Thats where I bought all the parts for my repair. They were very helpful and quick to ship.
