Funky Timing Issue with the RX

Featured Replies

well, it runs fine, starts up by just bumping the key.. runs like a top..

originally when i plopped the motor in the timing was set at 12 degrees... car did great, 250 miles to a tank of gas.. i thought that it could be better by setting the timing correctly at 25 degrees

well i set it to 25 degrees and the car lost power, and was only getting 200 miles to a tank..

so i set it back to about 15 and it runs much stronger and better mileage..

any ideas why it likes being retarded? :banghead:

ahh hell, there were green plugs under the steering column.. plug then in, unplug them, it didn't matter, they did absolutely nothing..

on a good note i never get any pining at all nomatter where its set, lol..

My ea81t timing is 15 degrees. What is factory specs for ea82t? I wouldn't think it would be much more than 15 degrees, there both 1.8turbo engines.

25 degrees is stock for an ea82T.. 8 is stock for my ea81 hatch..

thats what makes it wierd, you set it to stock and it runs worse than at 15..

nope no difference at all.. i plugged them in, got out checked.. nothing.. unplugged them, got out checked, nothing.. no difference at all..

what exactly do the green plugs control?

meeky,

check the label under the hood...theres a process to timing the vacuum advance turbo distys, and yes - it does make a difference.

i think for the 85-86 cars, you had to disconnect the vacuum line to the vacuum adv., unplug the knock sensor connector by the air box (these cars had a knock control module in the fender) and connect the green plugs which were under the hood in those cars from what i remember.

you should be getting alot better milage then what you are getting now...i was getting 300-350mi per tank when i owned it and this was only a year ago.

all else fails read the label eh? i figured that out and kicked myself in the arse when i looked at the label that told me what that 3 tittied vacuum control dooda was.. after 3 days of tryin to figure it out, lol..
