TheGoat
Would this motor be a good swap candidate? The 'ol Forester has HG issues, and am contemplating a swap rather than a fix. Opinions?
GeneralDisorder
Not a good swap because it's not compatible mechanically or electrically. You need a '95 to '98 EJ22 from an automatic. GD
TheGoat
Well, actually, I was just thinking about starting with the block, changing crank, rods, and pistons, bolting on newer heads, and keeping the Forester's wiring.
GeneralDisorder
The forester has no ability to control a turbo. Using a 22T block with high compression pistons so you don't need a turbo is a waste of a 1000 HP block. You can't get enough power without forced induction to need that expensive of a block. The Dude Abides
Talk to bhenen. He has done many HG jobs if you are leery about doing the job yourself. Im sure he could use the business. From what i understand, as long as it wasnt overheated the replacement gaskets hold up alot better and some never have problems again. If you do it right it shouldnt be a problem anymore. TheGoat
I'm not leery of doing the HG's, but I was kinda eying bh's longblock and had visions of making myself a turbo Forester. I'm sure it can be done...
92_rugby_subie
Maybe an EJ207 into a forester, or an EJ257 into a forester...?
