Into and glass questions

Featured Replies

Hey all let me start off with introducing myself Im brandon im in southern oregon. I just picked up a 81 project brat. payed a whopping $125 for it :headbang: body is straight cept for the tailgate, busted passenger corner lense and passenger fender is pretty knackered up. I will post pics or something once i get it towed to my house. It has a blown head gasket.

Any ways I need a windsheild and a passenger side window.. I have heard that these old subarus share alot of parts. Im kinda new to the subi world, my main project is my 1979 datsun 620 kingcab that im bringing back to life. so does anyone know if any other subaru model shares this glass maybe? or knows where i can find some. I have called all the glass shops and wreckers in my area and kind find anything.

The door glass is Brat only, but I believe the windshield is shared by a couple models. I also know as of a few months ago, it was still available for about $125-$150.

any idea where it was available from? I will keep looking i guess.

The windshield you are looking for is number FW417. ask any glass shop and they should be able to order it. also get a new gasket if you can. it makes life a bit easier and helps seal the windshield better

i know with my datsun the window kinda just pops in with the seal. is that the same with subaru? or do i have to have a pro install it?

I had my 84 done professionally. They used hot glue/adhesive although I am not educated enough to say what will or will not work. New front glass are kind of spendy. I have done one (hot glue method) and had professionals do one. The car I did was rear ended/totalled, (had sold it) windshield didn't fly out so I felt good about that.

The next one I had a company do it. I enjoyed walking across the street and eating a hamburger while they do it, no leaks.. no issues and the front window is part of the integrity of the car no worries. .02

You can install it yourself, but here's the problem. The windshield gaskets out there for the Brats are nowhere near as good a fit as they used to be. If you put it in yourself, it will most likely leak. When you have it installed, the use a black or clear silicone around the outside edge and then a material called beading that is very soft and tacky between the glass and the rubber. It's like butyl tape. Let them install it. If it leaks, it's their problem.
