Thermostat install question

Recommended Posts

When installing a T-stat on a Subaru, does it matter what direction the giggle valve should face? I'm not talking about which side of the T-stat should be in (or out of) its housing, but if you should rotate it so that the giggle valve is on a particular spot. I'll be using an OEM unit.

I always put it to the front and have never had a problem.

Make sure you jack the car as high as possible in the front and fill slowly into the top radiator hose back into the block. Then finish filling the radiator and start the engine. As it warms up, keep on squeezing the top hose to burp the air out of the radiator filler neck.

When air stops coming out, you are good.

PS Heater on full hot.

PROPER methind for filling a car with coolant (has noting to do with ramps)

Car on level ground

1-Start car, turn on temp to hot.

2-SLOWLY fill car up with coolant

3-when filled, wait for thermostat to open (surge out the radiator neck) Monitor temp gauge

4-Once level settles top off radiator

5-Fill overflow to hot line

6-Install radiator cap

7-Drive car around block. Allow to cool

8=Check coolant level. Repeat above if needed. You should only have to repeat it once.

Use this method for all cars and you will be bubble free,
