July 3, 201213 yr As title says my little wagon (116,00omiles) has started a leak up behind the rear of the block above the exhaust pipe, directly behind the oil filter. Not sure where it is coming form but it is leaving a few drips on the ground and also blowing back on engine pipe. Search on board didn't give me any feedback so I was wondering if this is a common problem and where to start looking for the leak. Thanks in advance. Doug M
July 3, 201213 yr Some common Oil leak sources: Breather Plate on the back of the block behind the Fly wheel or flex plate: Rear Cam Cover, Passenger side Cam and Crank Shaft Seals and Oil Pump Head Gaskets at the split line. Clean it up and then find the source. Some just live with it. As long as you check the oil and can live with the oil burning smell it will run for a long time.
July 3, 201213 yr sounds like phase 2 head gasket failure maybe. thoroughly check the head to block mating surface to see if that is what's leaking.
July 3, 201213 yr post a picture the oil filter may not be seated properly? an old oil filter ring could have been stuck on the engine and now there are two gaskets there. i don't believe yours has an oil cooler on it but oil cooler gaskets are known to leak as well. headgasket assuming you don't have an oil cooler then simply clean it up, change the oil filter and keep an eye on it.
