Rear struts about the same between a 1990 Legacy and a 1997 Legacy? Mostly wondering if the tophats are the same. Neither is an Outback so good to go there.

the 90 top hats are slightly different. (90 - 91 i think) so you either have to swap the tops or mod the mounting holes slightly.

Did this change in 93? I have options for both 1990 and 1993 rear struts.

it probably changed by then, not sure. but if you look for struts on subarupartsforyou.com or opposedforces.com/parts and the 93 uses the same part number as your year, then yes, it changed.

 

if you are pulling the struts off of the 93, measure the top bolts and see if it is the same as yours.

90 to 94 rear top hats use a different bolt pattern than 95+. 90-93.5 used cone shaped springs and 93.5/94 used conical but the bolt pattern stayed the same and you can't use 95+ top hats without modification so it won't work the other way either.
