September 17, 201213 yr Need to do something with my 84 GL EJ swap radiator. Recore is $100, reman from internet is $130. Any opinions either way? If I do order new from internet, should I stick w/ GL or go with EJ22 radiator?
September 20, 201213 yr The EA81 radiator is fine. If you want to be super cool, have the inlet/outlets changed to 1-1/2 in. diameter to fit the EJ hoses.
September 26, 201213 yr There is only room to do that on the lower side. The upper tank doesn't have enough room. I would start with a new one and have a shop put new one in unless you are good at Brazing.
September 27, 201213 yr Find the right hoses, and no adaption nessecary. Order a 12" flex hose for the top, and a 18" for the bottom. 1-1/4 at one end, 1-1/2 at the other. Or search for a preformed that will work.
October 2, 201213 yr i found a radiator at the JY out of a first gen impreza, had a outward facing hose bung on the bottom rather than upward like the EA82 radiator. i dont know if the ea81 is similar to the ea82 rads tho. but it might be an option. its a single row just like the ea82 radiator im using now with my ej25 swap.
October 3, 201213 yr Stick with the EA81 radiator. It should be all brass, with larger passages than the EJ rads (aluminum/plastic) It will work great. Again, flex hose with 1 1/4" at one end, 1 1/2" at the other.

November 4, 201213 yr Author Ok, I can find flex hose or dual diameter, but I cannot find both in the same hose. Anyone have part #'s or know who carries these? Thanks
November 5, 201213 yr I have a shop that can and will put 1.5" in/out on the EA81 radiators. Done several of them including ones with 90 degree rotated connections for lifted swaps. Works great and no need for ugly flex hoses. GD

November 8, 201213 yr Hey gd, good to hear from you. How much does your shop charge for the work? As I recall it was around $120. Including all leaks repaired, drain plug changed out to a brass pet-cock, pressure tested and painted. GD
