mr. bliss
Hi all, ive looked around to see if there is a 'like' post and didn't find one. Has anyone seen or heard of this problem: My 93 Legacy Wagon, which runs great, looks great....has a strange intermittment idiling problem.... When the engine is cold, here in canada eh!, its fine, but as it warms up and im stopped at a red light its starts to feel like its gonna stall, but doesn't instead it recovers and conttinues to 'studder'....there is no problem when i drive though. The problem seems to be connected to the charging system because when i turn the hearter off it runs better and it also tends not to do this if its in park...? ...My CAA guys says my alternator is in good shape.. Ive changed the plugs, and my dealer couldn't figure it out he said to wait till it gets worse and the engine light comes on so that the onboard computer would have a decodable message of the problem. any thoughts? JaapH
I once had a battery that developed an internal short in one of the cells and then only had 10 volts,. One of the plates was bad and bend when warmed due to charging and touched the other plates. This might help you. Jaap
Cougar
A dirty EGR valve can cause this to happen I think. As far as the charging system goes, I suspect that it is ok. When you remove the load to it, by turning things off, it is less work for the engine then and it can idle easier. The idle air control should be checked also if the EGR valve is ok. greyghost
Check your plug wires, I had the exact same thing happen to me just this past week, finally figured out that it was the #3 plug wire. That is after I changed the coil pack, PCV valve, plugs and battery. (thank goodness the only thing I had to buy was the PCV valve and the battery, I had extra of everything else) 90 legacy LS SP
mr. bliss
Meant to get back awhile ago and say 'thanks' to yo'all! The grand-prize (firm handshake), goes to greyghost with the faulty-plug- wire suggestion. $50(cdn.) and the problem is gone, gone, gone! Thanks!
