phase1/phase2 timing belt swap.

Featured Replies

Can I use a phase1 2.2 timing belt kit for a phase2 sohc 2.5?

Phase 1 has 211 teeth on the belt. Phase 2 has 223.

Damn, thanks for the info. I'll add that to my list. I assume all the idlers can be used though, right? Cam and crank seals the same?

yes if you swap the Phase I 2.2 heads onto the Phase 2 block. but while i've done Phase I and Phase II swaps like that you need to proceed carefully due to clearance issues.

but normally - no, like capnr mentioned the belts are different.

you can use the Phase I tensioner on the Phase 2 block if you get the bracket that the tensioner bolts to - those are just attached to the block via a couple bolts. swap bracket and you can swap tensioner.

I have a few of these "kits" PM me if interested. I prefer the old style more reliable tensioner myself.

Oh you can bolt on the old tensioner bracket? I was wondering about that. I may go that route.

Not putting phase1 heads on, because this is a phase2 car. I just want it to work. Heh.
