January 9, 201313 yr I tried searching on the forums and couldn't find anything like what I'm dealing with. I'm doing the head gaskets. Ive done about 15 hg's on the notorious 2.5's. I got the passenger side head off with no interruptions. Cam cap bolts were easy did it with 1/4 socket an ratchet. The driver side cam cap bolts are frozen. Cracked a craftsmen socket 1/4 inch. And then broke teeth off a 3/8ths rachet. After I snapped one trying to remove it I stoped. The heads have not been done as far as I can tell. 125k miles. Anyone have any ideas or have had this happen to them? There just 10pm bolts supposed to be 14ft 8 for front caps. These bolts are welded into the head. I'm guessing due to it being over heated. Passenger side head was r&r in 45 minutes. Now I'm stuck. Any advice would be great. I don't wanna use a torch too much oil and stuff in the way. I'm ready to cut the caps off and get a used head/cams
January 9, 201313 yr Probably got so hot the bottom end is fried anyway. Probably best to junk it. Put in a 2.2 GD
January 9, 201313 yr Author Before I took it apart it ran great. On all 4 cyl smooth. No engine noise indicating internal damage. The only reason I did the head gasket is because the customer overheated it a month ago and after that going up inclines the temp would be irratic. And bubbles in overflow tank.
January 9, 201313 yr Author Anyone have this experience happen to them? I'm thinking I'll just snap all the bolt heads and then maybe replace the head
January 9, 201313 yr Author Cams free. Engine is in car. No room for impact. I'm using a snap on 6 point bolts are going to snap . Only got 2 loose snaped one already
January 9, 201313 yr Time to pull the motor methinks. If they're so seized that one has already snapped it sounds like it has been overheated to the point of no return. Pull the motor, inspect for signs of damage, repair if possible. To me it sounds like its done its dash.
January 10, 201313 yr Author Guess I'll pull it or atleast move it enough to get impact gun on it. Maybe get a used head if I can't drill the broke. Bolts out easily . Thx for the input
