"mini" starter?

Featured Replies

On a V8 the starter on them is a HUGE chunk of metal,so a popular option is a mini starter which uses gearing rather than brute force to turn the engine over.Right now I am contemplating putting a subaru EJ22 into a 83 Mazda RX7. One thing I am noticing is that the starter would stick a bit into the firewall. So I am wondering if there is a "mini" starter for a subaru. Something that is smaller and most importantly shorter to remove the need to cut the firewall, because I think where the starter would need to go holds the pedal box/and or heater core.

I dont know what would fit, but there are starters out there called "reduction gear" starters. They usually have shorter motors and spin fatser, but use a gear reduction to make the extra torque to spin the engine at the right speed.

Off hand I do not even know where to start looking for what would fit.

However I never really though of subaru starters as being that huge.

The subaru starter isnt that big, but with how its mounted the EJ22 can't snuggle up to the firewall very well.

I think you have some fabrication ahead of you. Looking at mini starter, they show small high torque starers for v-8s, which look about the size of a sooby starter.

Google it "mini starter" then select "shop for" where the pictures are, maybe that will help?
