I cbanged my plugs on my 2010 forrester non turbo for the first time at 35k. an now sub. is making strange winding noise. any thoughts on what may be causing the noise. car is idling smoothly . tks . uI

If you removed the air cleaner cover, if it is not seated properly it can make a variety of odd noises.

yes I did remove it. and I think its settingin their ok. is there a way to tell if it is the' air cleaner. ?

The factory plugs are good for 90k. Why would you change them at 35k? Pretty much a waste of more than half their life.

just following the manufacturer's maintenance schedule. besides that when I pulled out they look pretty nasty.

also I gaped them at .043. does that sound right? I was thinking maybe the noiset was because I didn't use a to.rque wrench so I estimated by feel.

Factory recommended maintenance states - 30,000 miles.

When I changed mine at 30000, the gap on the old ones was quite big.  I have read somewhere that the coating on the plugs at this mileage has gone.

OP.  Do you hear the noise when driving or do you hear it only when idling?  I was paranoid when I changed mine and kept listening to the sound as well.  I also thought I heard something weird.  I have 35,000 on mine now and do not hear anything strange anymore.
