convert from timing belt to timing chain?

Featured Replies

so i just found out the  H6 in theTribeca has timing chains, has anyone ever looked at swapping the timing chain gears etc to replace the belts?   any thoughts on the idea (other than, its probably more work than its worth, LOL)

eh, apparently i just missed the boat on the whole idea, and its been discussed before.

no point in looking into it, it's all but impossible and there are easy options to get a timing chain equipped engine/vehicle.  oil pump, water pump, accessories, oil supply, everything would need modified, needs to be a sealed system, cams aren't offset on timing belt vehicles but they are on the timing chains due to it being one belt and two chains...there's like a hundred problems that need worked around.

the easy way is to buy a car that already has one or install an H6 engine or the new 4 cylinder engines that have timing chains.

if I just wanted a 'fun project'/experiment, I'd build a 'big bang' motor instead of this mod.

otherwise, engine swap.

2 pistons at TDC fire simultaneously, then the other 2 fire simultaneously. (then , in a flat 4, there's a 'rest' cycle) then repeat.
