April 19, 201312 yr I have 1987 subaru gl 1.8 liter sedan.Choke no longer works on cold mornings.I have to use accelerator to rev it up until engine warms up.Whats wrong and how to fix it? Thanks
April 19, 201312 yr If its carbureted, the auto choke needs to be adjusted. If its Spfi code check would be first step, coolant temp sensor also can cause these kinds of problems too.
August 4, 201312 yr Chances are the end has broke off of the bi-metallic spring. That is the most likely cause of choke not setting. You have to drill the rivets out that hold the cover on to replace the spring. Use self-tapping #8-32 screws to put the cover back on.

Make sure once it warms up that its opening all the way as well, it may take some tinkering to get it right Edited August 6, 201312 yr by mikaleda
