'97 outback JDM emgine

Featured Replies

I'm swapping out my '97 outback 2.5 DOHC engine with a JDM replacement...the JDM has no EGR valve...mine does...I can see where I need to modify...but not real confident about what I've found as a reccommended procedure....any help will be greatly appreciated....thanks

The easiest solution is to swap the USMD intake manifold over to the JDM block.  That's what you are supposed to do... OR, you can use a but ton of clear plastic tubing and modify the heck out of it.  That's what I did.

here's the easy solution:

the more involved method is to drill and tap the EGR port.  aluminum is soft metal so it's easy to work with:

exactly what I was looking for...if ya ever get to the south Okanagan in BC, message me and I'll take you to a trophy Rainbow Trout lake with my gear...I'm a flyfisherman....again...thanks for the responce!!!

oh man, wish i were closer i'd take you up on that, i do fish and trout fishing is high on my list.

a non-EGR engine runs and drives just fine in an EGR equipped vehicle, if you want to tackle the EGR fix later, it's not necessary for any mechanical reason at all.

you will have a CEL that won't go away though, so you'll want to resort to one of those solutions above if you want or need to have the light out.
