Is the front diff dipstick telling me just the front diff or is it the entire transmission?

Oh the manual trans it's the whole thing.  On the automatic it's the just the final drive (aka front diff).

Cool thanks, been thinking about dumping some restore into the trans... front is a LSD right? All gear on gear action? XD

Only the full-on racing Subarus came with front LSD; none of the EAs had one.  Most don't have rear LSD either.

 

What is wrong with your trans?

Nothin 240k mi restore is good stuff figured i'd dump some in one of these times... just trying to clarify whether there is some "wet clutch" type plates in the front diff

No if its an old gen then most likely is an open diff
